Problems in my life

I have been quiet for some time regarding my pages. Now that things have cooled down and I have begun to write to articles for witch I in 2008 have taken notes, I will briefly explain what happened.

The first half of 2008 passed away trying different Linux distributions. I didn't feel at home in Debian any more and Arch wasn't the right either. Then I bought a Laptop at set forth to find the best match for this system. Although it didn't help me much the article The big Linux distribution/environment battery test came out of it. It is the first article in a year and marks on a personal level the beginning of a new time for me.

Second half went by with two for me important events. The first being my fiances appliance for visa, that she send in August 2008. I won't touch that subject more than that now as it will make it to an article when we get an answer. But we are still waiting. The other big event was that I started the study to become a Carehelper. It went fine for some time, but around new year when my dad got heartproblems because of stress I had to face that I was pushing myself to much. I was burning up by all the things I had to take care of: My dads duties at home, the visa application and my study. So I did something about that which I could do something about and stopped the study.

So now more than three months later I am back on full steam. You can expect to see some new articles by me in the near future.

Unstable internet connection

In the last month my internet connection has been somewhat unstable with more than a few hours of offtime where there were no connection in or out from the server. This time it's not me. Since I moved to Slackware around new year I have not had the server down. Instead it's Cybercity that according to customer care is doing a major update on the central that I'm connected with. It still sucks and I give you my sympathy if you experience that you can't connect to my server. It should become as it used to be again around April 27. I sure hope so.

Today we received a letter from Cybercity in witch nothing is said about last months instability or that it will last until the 27Th. What it does say is that we on April 27 should not expect any connection between the hours 01 and 16.

German comes back

This is probably the funniest part of these news. When I on 12 September 2008 wrote that German pages disappears I didn't really thing that I ever would revive this part of my pages. But as so many times before I must confess that I'm not always right. The thing is that I have re-found the want to make these pages again. I have seen a little German TV since then and like with English I hardly notice that it is a foreign language that is used. Besides my mom has encouraged me to do so, as she thinks I do it well. Sometimes you have to listen to your mom, even if your over 30...

And the reason for my lag of productivity was not the German pages but the other mess in my life.

Besides that I have plans to make versions in Swahili of all my pages when I feel comfortable with this language. At least half of the population in Africa understands Swahili better than English. And it is the language of my fiance...

Changing license

For some time there has been something about the GPL that I didn't like to much: It's focus is the sourcecode. The idea is that if the code is kept free it ensures that everyone can modify the code. This is all fine and good. And it works, as GPL passes acid test in German court (external link) explains. Here it is proved by German court that D-Link did not comply with the License of some of the code they used in their products. And there are similar stories from other big companies.

But I am actually more interested in the freedom of humans. That is why I have chosen at less restrictive license. I choose the X11 License, also known as the MIT License.

The X11/MIT License simply says: You are allowed to do what you want with this as long as you don't say you made it. I like that.
