On 12 May 2009 I got a new domain. All requests for the old one, carstenbjensen.com are being redirected to the new one, carstenboysenjensen.com as of 17 May 2009.
The reason why I choose this new and longer domainname is, that I'm unfortunate to have a name that is very popular in Denmark.
In the 90's I got my middlename with the permission from my grandmother as it was her lastname. I wanted it for two reasons: Firstly the name I was born with is very commen and has today more than 1000 listings in the phonebook. Secondly I wanted to show that I was a Boysen as well as a Jensen, and not just a Jensen.
But I used to just write the initial instead of the whole middlename. I had however noticed that it was less unique than I thought with around 10 listings in Denmark. This fact and the fact that I really like the middlename and wanted to use it in my publications made me want to use the middlename in full. Then there should be no doubt who is the author of these pages... me!. I know not of anyone else with this name.
Anyway the old domain will be redirecting requests until it expires on 10 June 2010.
With the change of domain name, I did a little housekeeping on the server. When the old domain dies in 2010 all old redirects from my PHP-days and from the first domain, caboje.dk will die too. I see no reason I should redirect these pages when the pages has never been on the new domain. But until then they will work. But please update your links to them now so you don't end up in dead-link hell.
I have also chosen not to use XHTML for my pages as I do not see a reason to use that over HTML, rather the opposite. Instead I have chosen the route of compatibility given in pure HTML. More information about why not to use XHTML can be found in No to XHTML
.
All pages are now in the characterset of ISO-8859-1 instead of UTF-8. I do not need the extra characters in UTF-8 and pages in ISO-8859-1 takes up less space and bandwith.
I have changed to date-format I use on the pages e.g. from 2009-05-20 to 20 May 2009. Using the traditional format from United Kingdom for the English pages and the traditional format from Germany and Denmark for German and Danish. I have chosen the UK way of writing the date for the English pages because I find the US way with month first very confusion and because English originates from the UK, not the US. See Date and time notation by country
for more detail.
I have chosen to redirect requests without 'www' to the 'www'-counterpart as it makes it easier for novices to recognize a website in e.g. a letter or other printed materials. And I actually like the look of it. This also optimizes page-ranks in search engines, they say.
I have revived the 'donate'-page so now you can give me some support, if you like what I do and wish to pay me for it.
I have dropped to use of the '<hr>'-tag in my pages as I see no use of it when I use headings correctly.
Fixed a missing error-page in the German version of the contact-form, adding a printer-friendly css and other minor changes.
